The Worcester Fire Society records include correspondence, 1816-1966, treasurer's reports, clerks' reports, and minutes of meetings. There are also poems and speeches delivered at the January meetings and other meetings, 1846-1985, as well as the menus, agendas, and notifications for the quarterly meetings. There are lists of members, 1877-1965; rule books, 1793-1965; record books with minutes of meetings, 1793-1973; and treasurer's account books, 1793-1977. There are also receipted bills, canceled checks, and bank statements.

The Worcester Fire Society was founded in 1793 for the purpose of fighting fires and protecting the property of fire victims. Members were required to keep and maintain two leather fire buckets, two cloth bags, a bed key, and a screwdriver, all of which were subject to periodic inspectin.
